This is a public typewriter project. On March 24, 2023, 32 people wrote their manifestos out loud on a public typewriter in the Knight Park foyer. The 32 people’s manifestos project is the response to Matthew Stadler’s statement “I love your book, and I want to publish it” in “The ends of the book: reading, economics and publics”. Everyone has the right to raise their voice in public, and this process is a form of the publication itself. I aim to promote the participatory nature of publication as a social act, as well as the democratic nature of words.
I documented all the texts gathered throughout the workshop by capturing photographs, which I then uploaded onto the online e-book platform. As a collaborative effort, this joint publication rightfully belongs to all participants, and I shared it with them via email. Feel free to click the link below to view the writing online here.
